  The Buffalo Bird Report is a service provided by your
  Buffalo Museum of Science and the Buffalo Ornithological

  Highlights of reports received February 27 through March 6
  from the Niagara Frontier Region include KING EIDER,
  GLAUCOUS GULL, BALD EAGLE, KILLDEER and COMMON GRACKLE.

  From Port Weller, Ontario, March 2, an exceptional adult
  male KING EIDER at the west spit ofthe Welland Canal at Lake
  Ontario. Viewed from the trail on east side of the canal,
  along with an adult male SURF SCOTER.

  Another high count of GLAUCOUS GULLS - March 1, a total of
  64 counted from Dunkirk Harbor to the upper Niagara River.
  Including 21 at Dunkirk Harbor, 11 at the Peace Bridge, 22
  off Squaw Island and 10 at Beaver Island State Park. Another
  18 GLAUCOUS GULLS reported this week at Johnson Creek at
  Lake Ontario in Orleans County.

  Other gulls at Dunkirk Harbor - second-winter THAYER'S GULL,
  18 ICELAND GULLS, 2 L. BLACK-B. GULLS and two hybrid
  "NELSON'S GULLS".

  BALD EAGLES continue to be drawn to the concentrated and
  weakened waterfowl at Dunkirk Harbor - 44 BALD EAGLES at the
  harbor on March 1.

  Other waterbird highlights - Two RED-THROATED LOONS at the
  Erie Basin Marina in Buffalo. A breeding plumage RED-NECKED
  GREBE and 300 RED-BR. MERGANSERS at Mid-river Marina in
  Tonawanda. CACKLING GOOSE on the pond behind the Route 60
  Walmart in Fredonia. And, March 4 and 5, an unexpected D.-
  CREST. CORMORANT in the Village of Williamsville, on a pond
  on Reist Street.

  Encouragement that the frigid winter will pass - KILLDEER,
  COMMON GRACKLE and RED-W. BLACKBIRDS at several locations
  this week, and a NORTHERN FLICKER at a feeder in North Boston.

  Other reports - BALD EAGLES on the Strawberry Island nest.
  Two PEREGRINE FALCONS in the Niagara River gorge at the
  Whirlpool. MERLIN and NORTHERN SHRIKE at a feeder on
  Pleasentview Drive in Lancaster. COMMON RAVEN in the
  Town of Niagara. And AMERICAN CROW at a feeder in
  Cheektowaga. And in Genesee County, 150 SNOW BUNTINGS and 35
  HORNED LARKS on McLernon Road in Bethany.
