There will be an OFNC birding field trip to Amherst Island Saturday, 8 February. For more detail see http://www.ofnc.ca/events.php REDHEAD (5 m) were found on the Mississippi River east of the Queen St bridge in Almonte on January 30th and were last reported on the 1st. LAPLAND LONGSPUR (3), SNOW BUNTING (70) and HORNED LARK (24+) continue along Lockhead Rd W just west of 4th Line Rd SE of North Gower. Nearby on the "wide shoulder" of 4th Line Rd BROWN-HEADED COWBIRD (m & f) were found on the 2nd. BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER (f) was found along the Moodie Dr Jack Pine Trails south of the first boardwalk on the trail that runs south from the parking lot parallel to Moodie Dr on the 1st. GRAY PARTRIDGE (2) were seen on the 3rd near 4184 Moodie Dr, BARROW'S GOLDENEYE continue on the Rideau River at Lodge Rd and on the Ottawa River channel north of the parking area at the south end of the Champlain bridge, LONG-TAILED DUCK (f) continues above and below Deschenes Rapids, GREEN-WINGED TEAL (m) was found again on the creek along March Valley Rd east of Klondike Rd on the 1st, an injured COMMON GRACKLE continues to visit feeders in the Amy St and Forest Creek Dr area in Stittsville, RED-BREASTED MERGANSER on the 2nd behind the filtration plant just west of Parc Moussette in Gatineau, a MERLIN (f) was seen along Cedarview at Kennevale Dr and an AMERICAN KESTREL was found along hwy 148 west of Breckenridge on the 3rd. The HERMIT THRUSH was seen again on Parliament Hill on the hillside behind the Library on the 3rd. Thank you to everyone who contributed bird observations.
