I've been seeing a single Pied-billed Grebe at the very east end of Humber Bay Pk E since November. There is a large bay formed by the lakeshore and the protruding man-made park.
The bird is usually there somewhere, often close to shore. When the Ruddy Ducks are there in number it may be trickier to spot, as he'll blend in with that crowd, who are often offshore a bit. Of course it can be behind the little man-made islands or otherwise invisible. Because I see it almost every visit, I do believe it is wintering right there. I also saw the bird on my last visit Jan 12. For those not familiar with the park, you enter at Lakeshore and Parklawn, and proceed to the big parking lot on the east side. If coming by TTC, transit will also take you to that intersection. Because of the curve of the lake and major streets, by east I mean back towards downtown, which is easy to spot. There was a good assortment of other birds at the park- many different ducks including all 3 mergansers, N. Shrike, and the ice was gone from the bay. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
