Sharron and I went out yesterday afternoon for our new years drive to look for
raptors. This year we decided to try the Linwood area and not Fisherville.
This turned out to be a good decision. We had 10 Rough-legs, 12 Red-tails, 1
Kestrel and 7 Snowy Owls.

The owls were along County road 5, which becomes County rd. 12 north of
Linwood. This is a north/south road that runs through Linwood.
5 owls were seen between the 4th line and the 6th line north of Linwood on
County rd. 12. The other 2 were seen just south of Schummer Line on County rd.
5.
All of the owls were visible from the car. 5 of the owls were in tree tops
that were broken because of the ice storm and 2 were on the tops of silos.
Binocs were good enough to identify and a scope gives better looks. You do not
have to leave the roadside to see these birds.
Trespassing is not necessary.

Directions: Hyw. 86 between Listowel and Kitchener Look for County rd. 12
north and County Rd 5 south, this is just east of Conestoga Lake.
