25 birders attended the Jan. 1st OFO outing around Peterborough today.
Only 29 species were recorded. The cold weather had sent many species to find 
food at bird feeders. 
On the Otonabee River between Trent University and Lakefield we saw Mallards, 
Common Goldeneyes, Common Mergansers, Long-tailed Duck, Red-necked Grebe and 
American Coot.
At Petroglyphs Provincial Park, workings of Black-backed Woodpeckers but no 
birds could be found. Sightings included Bald Eagle, Red-tailed Hawk,  Common 
Raven, Brown Creeper, Hairy Woodpecker, Red-breasted Nuthatch and 
Golden-crowned Kinglets.
Also seen today were 2 Ruffed Grouse, 2 flocks of Wild Turkeys, 2 Snow Bunting 
flocks, Pileated Woodpecker, Cooper's Hawk,  and several White-breasted 
Nuthatches.
