Bald eagles have arrived in South Lake Simcoe. One 3-year old bird was
observed roosted in a large Black willow tree on the shore of Lake
Simcoe at Cook's Bay on Saturday December 14 at 12:50 p.m. The bird was
eating a large carp fish in the tree about 25 feet above the shore bank.
The eagle was approachable and easily observed from the car. Conditions
were windy and snowy, with ice out into Cook's Bay about 300 yards. Open
water still in much of the bay. The bird was at 299 Metro Road North, in
northern Keswick. This area can be reached from the five corners in
Keswick by Woodbine Ave. north to Old Homestead Road traveling west to
the Lake and turning right on Lake Drive North to the house location.
Three (3) other Bald eagles were seen in the area to the north of this
location toward the open lake area from 1:00-2:15 p.m.
