Rare for our area a juvenile dark morph RED-TAILED HAWK, a western (calurus)  
was found in the Trail Rd, Moodie Dr and Barnsdale Rd area on the 11th. 
 
BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER (m) found on the 3rd was last reported on the 9th 
south of the pedestrian bridge at the west end of Ch. Vanier in Aylmer.
 
HARLEQUIN DUCK (2) continue to be seen near the bottom (east) of the Deschenes 
Rapids. Also found at that location on the 8th were COMMON LOON (1), 
LONG-TAILED DUCK (f), BUFFLEHEAD (3), HOODED (5) and RED-BREASTED MERGANSER (3) 
and BALD EAGLE (1 ad). LONG-TAILED (2) and RING-NECKED (3) DUCK were found at 
Shirleys Bay
 
WHITE-WINGED SCOTER (f) was found on the Rideau River south of the Jock River 
from the Maple Hill Park trail on the 7th and 8th and behind the Rideau Tennis 
Club on the 12th. GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET (18) were also found along the Maple 
Hill trails on the 7th.
 
Interesting winter sightings were BELTED KINGFISHER flying over the Trail Rd 
landfill and another on the Mississippi River in Pakenham and a WHITE-THROATED 
SPARROW (1) at a backyard feeder in Carleton Place. 
 
There are many RED-TAILED HAWK including 5 northern abieticola (found in the 
Trail Rd, Moodie Dr and Barnsdale Rd area), numbers of ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK and 
NORTHERN SHRIKE, BALD EAGLE have been reported at many locations along the 
Ottawa River and a few GREAT-BLUE HERON remain in the area.
