This morning, I spotted an female Eider sp. flying in Frenchman's Bay, Pickering. It must have been flushed from the water when a fishing boat entered the Bay through the channel from Lake Ontario. It appeared to have settled back on the water in the channel. It was observed from near the eastern terminus of Beachpoint Promenade. Unfortunately, one cannot walk as far as the channel as there is construction activity restricting access. It is the same situation from the opposite side of the Beach road, accessed from the foot of Liverpool Rd. Consequently, I was unable to confirm the Eider to species.
To reach Beachpoint Promenade, take West Shore Blvd. south from Bayly St. Proceed south until it terminates at Beachpoint Promenade. Drive east as far as the construction fence. Liverpool Rd. is also accessed south from Bayly St. Alfred Adamo Toronto _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
