White-winged gulls are back at the Dump off Erb St (near Ira Needles Blvd).
Observed a pristine adult Glaucous Gull in breeding/alternate plumage, with
solid white head, bright yellow bill and orbital ring, clean grey back and
white primaries showing no signs of molt. Also a 1st winter iceland gull, among
approximately 150 Herring gulls i studied. I will be doing some more intensive
scouting ahead of the CBC and provide a more comprehensive assessment of
numbers.
Had one interesting gull, which i believe was a runt Herring Gull. Small solid
white head, dark eye, small solid black bill - on what otherwise appeared to be
a Herring Gull with mottled body, solid light brown primaries and pink legs.
Detailed photos obtained for all the birds.
Cheers,
