Ontbirders,
To expand on Barb's post, I just wanted to make some corrections in regards to
the location where we saw the Common Eider. We parked on the shoulder of the
Niagara Pkwy adjacent to Bowen Road Park which is where we located the bird.
This location is across the river from Rich's Marina and north from the
International RR Bridge.
Also to clarify, the Common Eider was a female bird. Also for those who are
interest we first noticed the bird floating down river (north), irregularly
diving. It eventually floated down river almost out of sight and with a stroke
of luck the bird flew back up river (south) right past us!! You can see our
ebird checklist below as well as the photos I obtained.

Subject: [Ontbirds] Common Eider - Fort Erie - Niagara river.

Ontbirders:
Brett Fried, Erika Hentsch, Janice Chard and I just had a Common Eider in the
Niagara river at Fort Erie just north of the Peace Bridge across from "Rich's
Marina". We were fairly certain when Brett first spotted the bird it was a
Common, not a King Eider but the bird drifted further out into the river and
the lighting conditions became worse. Just when we thought we might be left
wondering, the bird took flight and flew up river past us for positive
identification. Photos taken by Brett. We also had Franklin's, and a Little
Gull at this location
