Peter Subject: Northern Parula, Rock Point PP Date: Mon, 4 Nov 2013 02:05:51 +0000 While searching for the resolutely elusive Brown Booby on Lake Erie today (and blithely driving right past the newly-discovered Cattle Egret!) we stopped in at Rock Point Provincial Park. There, we came across a gem of a November bird, a female Northern Parula. She was foraging with a small flock of Golden-crowned Kinglets, in the large trees along the slope immediately to the SE of the viewing platform, and was visible for some minutes. To reach Rock Point P.P., take the North Shore Rd. of Dunnville, heading south-east. Take a right at Neice Rd. to the first left, which is Downey Rd. Drive to the end of Downey, where you will find a small parking area; walk in at the "notice to hunters" sign (note that the park is officially closed at the moment.) Bear left slightly, into the campground; the viewing platform is high on the dune between the wooded section of campground and the lake.
