Oct 3 - hawk watch ...

53 species of birds including:

1 each of Common Raven, American Pipit, American Coot, Pied-billed Grebe,
Hermit Thrush and Marsh Wren
5 Ring-necked Ducks and 3 Redheads
5 Great Egrets - no wing tags
150++ Rusty Blackbirds
2 Gray Catbirds
2 Blue-winged Teal + 190 Green-winged Teal
2 Common Loons
oh yeah - and the hawks: 3 American Kestrels, 6 Sharp-shinned Hawks + local
Red-tailed and Marsh Harrier

22 Monarch Butterflies, one fritillary sp., one Cabbage White and a Mourning
Cloak

In the hinterland, the sparrows are on the move with the first White-crowned
Sparrows showing up yesterday and lots of White-throats in song. A Gray-cheeked
Thrush is lingering and yesterday a House Wren displayed for a few minutes.
Blackbirds are conspicuously absent of late. The hinterland is centred about
25 kms north of Cranberry Marsh near Lakeridge and Reach Sts. in Scugog Twp.
and has a lovely place I call home situated on it.

Directions: From Victoria St. in Whitby go south on Halls Rd to the second
short walkway going east to the Cranberry Marsh Lookout. Lynde Creek crosses
Bayly Street just east of Lynde Shores Conservation Area and can be accessed on
foot via the path along the east side of the private road.
