Subject: [Ontbirds] Long-billed Dowitcher at Sobey's Pond, Whitby

Hello Birders,
I found a juvenile Long-billed Dowitcher feeding at close range at Sobey's
Pond today in Whitby. Also present were several other shorebirds,
including:

3 Greater Yellowlegs
1 Lesser Yellowlegs
3 Pectoral Sandpipers
1 Dunlin

The LB Dowitcher was still present at 5:05 pm, when I left the pond.

This site is well worth checking for shorebirds - I have seen a
Buff-breasted Sandpiper, 2 Wilson's Snipe and a variety of other species at
close range here within the last 12 days.

To reach Sobey's Pond, take the Brock Street exit (NOT Brock Road, which is in Pickering). Go south about 1/2 km to Victoria Street, turn right (west)
and drive about 2 km to Montecorte (note gas station on right there), turn
right (north) and go about 1/2 km to Nordeagle, turn right (east) and park
on the roadside just east of the corner. There are informal paths leading
into the pond, on the south side of the road.

Good luck,
Steve
