Visitors:
Dozens enjoyed opening day of the Hawk Festival, including visitors from
Ontario, Michigan, Kentucky, and Manheim, Germany.
Weather:
Skies were mostly clear with temperatures ranging from 8-20C. Barometric
Pressure topped out at 30.12 and settled to 30.07 during the final hour of
the count. Light winds from the NW shifted to WSW, then SW by the noon
hour.
Raptor Observations:
10 species of raptors were recorded today, highlighted by 16 Bald Eagles.
Three of the adult Bald Eagles streamed through together between the tower
and shoreline during the 9:00 hour. Many thanks to Karen Padbury, Paul
Pratt, Jim McCoy, Cindy Cartwright, Olga and Roland Klekner who helped
witrh today's count.
Non-raptor Observations:
91 Cedar Waxwings with several individuals affording great looks as they
made a breif stop in tree just W of the tower, 70 American Goldfinch,
additional species included Mute Swan, Northern Pintail, Pied-billed Grebe,
Black-crowned Night Heron, American Coot, Ring-billed Gull, Herring Gull,
Caspian Tern, Mourning Dove, Chimney Swift, 3 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, 2
Downy Woodpeckers, 2 Blacked-capped Chickadees, 2 Red-breasted Nuthatches,
and Yellow-rumped Warbler. 14 Monarchs today.
Predictions:
Mainly cloudy skies with comfortable temperatures ranging from 13-20C are
expected. SW winds at 15km/hr shifting to N at 10km/hr by Sunday night.
