The wind was very light and out of the east early, strengthening and shifting more southeast as the day progressed. Raptor Observations: A very good day of early September movement. Broad-winged and Sharp-shinned hawks were both speeding south in good numbers and Bald Eagles continued to make their presence felt. The day's highlight came during the early afternoon when six eagles, one after the other, raced across the channel and then pulled up to soar together over the parking lot for a short time. Non-raptor Observations: Very little non-raptor activity. Small numbers of American Goldfinch, Red-winged Blackbird, Common Grackle and Northern Flicker were detected but that was about it. A female Wood Duck flew by in the late afternoon, our first Wood Duck of the season. Predictions: Mostly cloudy with southwest winds and a slight chance of rain. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jonathan Stein ([email protected]) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org Site Description: The Detroit River Hawk Watch (a joint venture of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and its Friends group, the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
