After 13 hours of continuous coverage under ideal weather conditions
by up to 10 observers (led by Don Barnett, Jean Iron and I) a total of
462 Whimbrels were recorded. The largest flock was 250. This brings
the total seen in 8 days of watch to 1188. Other shorebirds recorded
were: Black-bellied Plover (149); Dunlin (410); Least Sandpiper (4);
Spotted Sandpiper (3); Ruddy Turnstone (1) and Semi-palmated Sandpiper
(1). Addition significant records included 6 Common Loons and 5 Black
Scoters. The watch will continue until 29 May.
Directions: The park is located off south end Colonel Samuel Smith
drive which runs of the south end Kipling south Lakeshore Boulevard.
