the grebe continued at Tavistock yesterday .. the conditions were atrocious
as 80-90+ km/hr winds buffeted us and sleet, hail and snow (yes snow) soaked
us through to the skin ... nice bird though!

Hey,
There was a definitive alternate Eared Grebe in the large [north-east] cell
of the Tavistock Lagoons this evening.
Latish waterfowl included a pair of Greater Scaup, plus single Bufflehead
and Ring-necked Duck, with a mixture of other dabblers.
Shorebird numbers / diversity were decent - 2 White-rumped Sandpiper, 5
Pectoral,1 Dunlin, 75 Least, 5 Solitary, 55 Lesser Yellowlegs, 4 Greater
Yellowlegs and one Semipalmated Plover. A couple of American Pipits were
also present along the muddy edges of the lagoons, with several Lapland
Longspur heard / seen in the adjacent bare fields - several males in full
alternate.
To reach the lagoons, take Hwy 59 north of Woodstock to Maplewood Sideroad.
Continue east to the 14th Line, go north [about 2 km] to the old RR tracks
and walk in to the north-west -- the lagoons are visible from the RR line.
