Hello birders, It's been a good day at Rondeau with plenty of interesting birds around to greet our weekend visitors.
A Worm-eating Warbler was seen on Spicebush Trail, between boardwalk C and D. Other species on Spicebush include a Cerulean Warbler near the entrance from the road. This seems to be the best trail for birding today in the park. On the east side of South Point Trail sightings include the Summer Tanager just before a group of pines and a Golden-winged Warbler right near the entrance. The west side of South Point Trail has also been very busy although we couldn't pick any rarities out of the hordes of Yellow-rumped Warblers. Blackpoll Warbler and Yellow-throated Vireo were the highlights along the first kilometre of the trail. Sandhill Cranes were frequently heard calling from the marsh nearby. A Yellow-throated Warbler has been seen again around the visitor centre. An Olive-sided Flycatcher was reported just south of Spicebush Trail on Rondeau Road. Thank you to everyone who contributed sightings and please continue to do so at the Visitor Centre. More information on the park's nature programs and the Friends of Rondeau is available at the Friends' website: www.rondeauprovincialpark.ca. Directions: Take exit 101 from Highway 401 and drive South 16 km on Chatham Kent Road 15. Turn right and follow the signs to the park. The Bird Sightings Book, Bird Sightings Board, Bird Checklists and other relevant information are to be found at the Visitor Centre. To reach the Visitor Centre from the park Gate, travel 6 km South on Rondeau Road to Gardiner Ave., then follow it around the bend to the parking lot.
