With the permission of MNR and with co-operation of the Couchiching
Conservancy Nigel Shaw and myself have been colour-banding
grassland sparrows, Vesper, Clay-colored, Field, Savannah and
Grasshopper, on the Cameron and Windmill Ranches. We are studying the
sparrows to get more information on numbers, site fidelity, number of
young, returns etc. We will be continuing the program this year with
the sparrows and hoping to get some Eastern Meadowlark, Bobolink and
Upland Sandpiper which have eluded us so far.
We selected the Carden area for the study based on the known breeding
populations of the target species and because large numbers of
birders frequent the area who can report sightings.
If you see a sparrow or other birds with a color-band that is white
with a three-character alpha-numeric code in black please contact me
with date a location of the sighting.
You can contact me at wilsonb_AT_csolve_DOT_net
Thanks
