Nineteen OFOers joined me at the Durham Waterfront yesterday to look for migrants. Unfortunately the lovely weather resulted in low numbers of birds, but a nice mix nonetheless.
73 species included 12 species of ducks (5 Ruddies), no raptors other than Turkey Vulture, 4 Great Horned Owls (2 adult + 2 young) and red-bellied woodpecker at Thickson's Woods, Eastern Kingbird, Warbling Vireos, 4 Blue-gray Gnatcatchers at Second Marsh, only 7 species of warblers including a nice male Parula at Thickson's, a towhee, a Field Sparrow and lots of White-crowed Sparrows at Second Marsh. While the numbers were low, they will come and this leaves lots of birds for future outings. We did not see the Neotropical Cormorant - nice find Glenn and Dan!
