At 3:05 pm I saw a flock of 5 Willets fly in from the south-east
during a period of moderate rain and land on rocky slope of the
peninsula just west of the marina. Field marks included strong black
and white pattern on the wings; large size; white rump; finely striped
gray body; gray legs and dark fairly heavy bill. They were only about
75 feet from me when they landed and made no attempt to fly off during
10 minutes of observation; obviously exhausted after fighting a strong
head wind while crossing the lake. I am very familiar with the
'western' race of the Willet from Saskatchewan where I began birding.
The park is located at the end of Lake Promenade Road which runs off
Lakeshore Boulevard between Clarkson and Dixie Roads. Park at the
south end of the southern-most parking lot in the park past the Port
Credit Yacht Club entrance.
