Today I checked a large nest along Pumphouse Rd. nar where it connects with Graham Sideroad south of Bradford, Ont. and found that this year it is being occupied by Great Horned Owls, not the ususal Red-tailed Hawks. This is a good sign considering all the disturbance in the area from the moving of the canal and all the heavy equipment and traffic moving along that stretch of road. Gonorth on Hwy. 400 to the Canal Rd. exit and go right. Follow the canal until it merges at Pumphouse Rd. near the bridge across the Holland River. Turn right on to Pumphouse Rd. and check the east side of the canal close to wher you see a small tributary with beaver lodges/food piles on either side. You should be able to clearly spot the large nest nearby. The road is narrow and busy, so be careful where you stop and pull over! Peter Wukasch
