On Monday April 1 I observed an adult Tundra swan foraging on a flooded
pond in a farmers field/hay meadow area south of the Hamlet of Egypt.
The bird was seen at 5:00 p.m. and observed for 15 minutes, and remained
on the ponding. The area is reached from Toronto area by driving Highway
48 north from Davis Drive to Smith Blvd. at the Hamlet of Baldwin, then
turn right (east) drive approximately 3 kilometers to the Hamlet of
Egypt. Turn right (south) 1/2 km. on the left (east) is the field. Two
Hooded mergansers (pair) were seen at 4:45 p.m. at Baldwin on the Black
River east of the dam.
On Tuesday April 2 an adult Peregrine falcon was seen flying low, then
rising very high, and calling. The location was in East Gwillimbury N.E.
of the town of Mount Albert. The bird was observed for about 10 minutes
moving N.E. and flying over the York Region Forest area. The location is
to follow north on Highway 48 from Mount Albert to Holborn Road and turn
right. At the York/Durham line turn left and proceed north 1/4 km. in
the area of the Zephyr Tract Regional Forest.
