A male Harlequin was observed on the Port Weller end of the Seaway today during
the Mid-winter Waterfowl Count. It was first seen beside the wharf at the coast
guard station on the west side of the canal. It gradually swam about 100 yards
north of the station and then returned to the vicinity of the wharf.

Directions from previous postings; From QEW, exit at Niagara Street and head
north on Niagara Street. Continue along Niagara until it ends at Lakeshore
Road. Turn right onto Lakeshore Road and cross the Welland Canal at Lock 1.
Drive until Seaway Haulage Road, turn left onto this road, and continue until
you reach the recreation trails along the canal. Walk down the road or the
path, till the coast guard station is visible across the canal. Scan the
shoreline in the vicinity of the coast guard station.
