Darlene Friedman, Rodney Laura, Jim Lynch, Paul Cypher, Pat Mulawa, Natalie Ray, Greg Norwood and Mark Wloch all stopped by. Weather: There were only a few puffy white clouds here and there to aid in spotting on this mostly sunny day. We had to contend with some morning fog once again. Temperatures remained in the 40s. Light throughout, the wind was out of the northwest early but quickly shifted to the east. Raptor Observations: Quality over quantity today with some nice variety if not a whole lot of volume. The highlight was undoubtedly the dark morph Rough-legged Hawk that flew in low over the boat launch parking lot in the early morning and then proceeded to circle up higher and higher for the next few minutes. Non-raptor Observations: There was a lot of non-raptor activity all day. Some highlights: Red Crossbill (2), Evening Grosbeak (15+), Pine Siskin (250+), Eastern Bluebird (1), American Robin (30+) Brown Creeper (2), Golden-crowned Kinglet (4), Red-breasted Nuthatch (1), American Tree Sparrow (1), Yellow-rumped Warbler (1), Horned Lark (6), American Crow (400+), American Black Duck (3), Bufflehead (1), Ruddy Duck (3), Bonaparte's Gull (20+), Forster's Tern (1). Predictions: Mostly sunny with highs in the mid 50s and moderate southwest wind. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jonathan Stein ([email protected]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org Site Description: The primary site used by the Detroit River Hawk Watch (a joint venture of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and it's Friends group, the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
