Visitors:
Despite the less than favourable forecast, a few visitors from the
Amherstburg, LaSalle, Windsor and Leamington areas made their way up to the
tower.
Weather:
Overcast day with light rain in the late afternoon. Winds out of the SSE
ranging from 4 - 11km/h. Temperature ranged from 14.9C - 17.8C.
Raptor Observations:
A relatively slow day with 172 birds of 8 species. Turkey Vultures
accounted for about 76% about of the birds. A Merlin buzzed the tower
early in the morning and a single Peregrine zipped down the beach in the
afternoon.
Non-raptor Observations:
A slow day for passerine migration. A good number of Tree Swallows were
seen out over the marsh and directly over the tower all day. A single
Chimney swift was also seen flying over. Some other highlights:
Blue Jays: 1070
Red-winged Blackbirds: 240
Northern Flicker: 7
American Goldfinch: 63
Pine Siskin: 18
Predictions:
The weather calls for cloudy skies with periods of drizzle throughout much
of the day. Winds will be out of the west ranging from 35km/hr in the
morning decreasing to 25km/hr in the afternoon. Temperature will range
from a low of 9C and only reaching a high of about 12C.
