A trip to check the mail proved very interesting today. As I looked out the
window of my front door there was a hummingbird feeding on the only red
flowering plant there - ten feet away. As it is late for any hummingbirds here
I took special notice.

The first thing that struck me was the buffy flanks, then the spotted throat.
The bird lingered for about 20 seconds and then took off down the road toward
the south.

A quick check of the bird guide confirmed I had just seen an adult female
Rufous Hummingbird.

The likelihood of the bird staying in the area is small but I will give a quick
tour of the neibourhood to see if there are any good places for it to linger.

Directions - My address is 46 Alberni St. just off Greenbank Rd. in Barrhaven
Ottawa. Do a mapquest or Google earth for the best directions.
