Weather: Like yesterday, it was sunny and clear with blue sky as far as the eye could see. The wind was light and out of the southwest. Raptor Observations: Not much was interested in moving today. Of note was the addition of two more Merlins to the season total, one of which plucked a tasty swallow from the sky right in front of us, the second time that's happened in four days. An in-close adult male Northern Harrier was also a special treat. Non-raptor Observations: Red-winged Blackbirds (80+) and American Goldfinches (30+) were moving through in the morning. Chimney Swifts (20+) and Purple Martins (40+) continue to be seen with regularity. Northern Rough-winged Swallows were again abundant and were joined by limited numbers of Bank, Barn and Tree swallows. Predictions: Should be a lot like today: clear skies, temps in the 80s and southwest winds. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jonathan Stein ([email protected]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org Site Description: The primary site used by the Detroit River Hawk Watch (a joint venture of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and it's Friends group, the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
