Weather: Sunny and clear, there was little to be seen but blue sky today. Temperatures were mostly in the low 70s. The wind was light and variable in the morning, strengthening and turning east and then southeast in the afternoon. Raptor Observations: Another nice late day flight brought us some distant broadwing kettles in the late afternoon. Riding the southeast wind, most of the birds were spotted well to our north. Non-raptor Observations: Cape May and Blackpoll warblers could be seen in the trees around the site throughout the day. Tiny groups of Bobolinks binked on by in the early morning. A pair of Forster's Terns joined a handful of Caspian Terns that were foraging in the channel. And for a third consecutive day, Northern Rough-winged Swallows were extraordinarily abundant from midday on. Predictions: Sunny and clear with highs in the upper 70s. The wind will likely be strong and out of the south. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jonathan Stein ([email protected]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org Site Description: The primary site used by the Detroit River Hawk Watch (a joint venture of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and it's Friends group, the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
