Hello Birders,

Long time! In the near constant downpour today, I had a lone, calling
WHIMBREL fly over the Spruce Bog Boardwalk parking lot. Normally, Algonquin
is mediocre for any shorebird, but this especially dry year has created
some suitable habitat, and especially during heavy rain, shorebirds can
sometimes be detected. It was heading East during a small break in the
weather but since a thunderstorm started up again almost immediately
afterwards, it should be grounded somewhere not too far.

Also today, Reuven Martin had a juvenile BONAPARTE'S GULL at the Two Rivers
Picnic Area beach.

Fall migration is certainly picking up here - many birds are now in flocks
and yesterday I observed 10 warbler species at the Old Airfield, including
two CAPE MAYS and a very early WILSON'S. A BOBOLINK was also present.

Good Birding!
