*Point Pelee National Park Migration Update for: *

Clear skies and light winds greeted birders today, with much song.

Notable sightings includes a 1st-cycle LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL at the Tip
early this morning. A “mystery” 1st-cycle gull was being photographed at
the Tip later in the morning. Two RUDDY TURNSTONEs was also seen at the
Tip.

A BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO was heard singing near the Tip washrooms.

In the songbird department, 17 warbler species were tallied, including
several singing CANADA WARBLER, BLACKPOLL WARBLER, TENNESSEE WARBLER and
MOURNING WARBLER, with sightings concentrated along the Tip Road. The
resident pair of PROTHONOTARY WARBLER continues to be observed in the area
of the south boardwalk on Woodland Nature Trail. A few PHILADELPHIA VIREOs
were noted between the Visitor Centre and Halfway Point on the Tip Road,
and one at the Tip. A YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER was observed at the
intersection of Shuster Trail and Tilden Woods Trail. A YELLOW-BILLED
CUCKOO and GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH were both noted at Tilden Woods. Of great
interest was a YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT observed on the Chinquapin Trail.

Elsewhere, an adult LITTLE BLUE HERON was seen at Hillman Marsh (back
lagoon) yesterday.

Birders and photographers are reminded that they are NOT to use electronic
playback devices and ‘pishing’ is strongly discouraged to attract birds in
the park. We appreciate your cooperation. If you encounter problems in
this regard, please contact park staff, and wardens will be notified.

Good Birding,

Hike Leaders: Pete, Karl, Todd, Justin, John, Ellen, and Alvan
