Point Pelee National Park Migration Update for: May 8, 2012

Expectations were raised slightly as the early morning rain tapered off
just before sunrise. Although there was no fallout to speak of, there was
lots of song reported from throughout the Park.

Highlights reported today included an adult LAUGHING GULL at the tip. Also
of note in the tip area was nice number of BOBOLINKS flying (and some
singing) overhead. Perched on a low branch was an EASTERN WHIP-POOR-WILL
south of the tip train stop, giving everyone excellent looks. Also giving
absolutely stunning looks was a CAPE MAY WARBLER and YELLOW-THROATED VIREO.
A MOURNING WARBLER was reported from Loop Woods and a CERULEAN WARBLER was
present just north of the Tip train loop.

Slightly further north, a CLAY-COLORED SPARROW and EASTERN BLUEBIRD were
seen at the Sparrow Field. A male GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER was reported from
Woodland Nature Trail and both a LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH and PROTHONOTARY
WARBLER were reported from along the Shuster Trail (before the turn off to
Tilden Woods). Early reports from Tilden Woods include the same red morph
EASTERN SCREECH-OWL, BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO, CERULEAN WARBLER, BAY-BREASTED
WARBLER, PHILADELPHIA WARBLER and BAY-BREASTED WARBLER.

At least 20 species of warblers are being seen in the Park with good
numbers of Tennessee, Black-throated Green, Northern Parula and
Blackburnian Warblers.

With the sun warming up the park we are expecting even more birder to
report back to us.

Good Birding,

Hike Leaders: Pete, Karl, Todd, Justin, John, Ellen, and Alvan
