Hi Ontbirders, This morning, 24 Apr, between 09:45 and 10 AM Norma Mooney and I heard and observed a Brown Thrasher in a tree on the small wooded hill adjacent to the Macoun Marsh in the southeast corner of Beechwood Cemetery, Ottawa. The bird subsequently flew down and foraged in a large rock pile to the left of the marsh. There were at least two Ruby-crowned Kinglets foraging the woods in that area as well.
Later, about 11:30 AM we observed and subsequently heard in the reeds a Pied-billed Grebe on McKay Lake in the Rockcliffe Park area of Ottawa. Happy Birding, Peter Campbell Ottawa, ON Directions: Beechwood Cemetery (Macoun Marsh) is accessible most easily from a gate on the west (left) side of St Laurent Blvd north of Montreal Road. There is an exit to St Laurent Blvd off the Queensway (highway 417). The cemetery gate is next to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Keep left after entering the gate and the marsh is easily visible next to the rock pile. McKay Lake can be accessed off Hillsdale Road which exits from the Rockcliffe Parkway. That is the extension of Sussex Drive running along the Ottawa River.
