April 20 - Scanlon Creek - 1 Northern Three-toed Woodpecker, 1 Phoebe and a
flock of White-
throated Sparows - and on the mudflats of the recently emptied dam, 1
Short-billed Dowitcher
plus the mother of all surviving dinosaurs - scutes on its tail like a
Stegosaurus - one brute of
a Snapping Turtle.
Scanlon Creek Conservation Area lies North off Concession 9 in Bradford.
At Reesor Pond 17th April 1 Grasshopper Sparrow on south shore. Both adult and
juvenile
Dunlin have been passing through this week along with Greater and Lesser Yellow
Legs while
on the 19th the first spotted Sandpiper showed. Late this afternoon a pair of
Pectoral Sand-
pipers showed. A Wilson's Snipe landed in the ditch beside me this morning.
Long-tailed ducks did not show this Spring but by the end of March they were
the only species
of the twenty ducks usually recorded at the pond that had not shown. American
Wigeon, Ring-
necked Ducks, Lesser Scaup, Gadwall, Hooded and Common Mergansers,
Buffle-heads, Green-
wing teal and Hooded and Common Mergansers,may be seen daily.
Reesor Pond lies just north of Hyw 407 on Reesor Road in Markham.
