Hi there,

This past weekend, I visited some family who live just outside of Powassan,
ON. They live on a gorgeous, 200+ acre property that offers the inquisitive
naturalist a variety of habitats to survey. From old-fields, to boreal
wetlands, to hardwood-dominated hillsides, this area is a real
nature-lovers dream (at least I think so!). Throughout the weekend, I
managed 57 species of birds. Highlights include:

Savannah Sparrow
Ruby-crowned Kinglet
Rusty Blackbird
Brown-headed Cowbird
Common Loon (two, flying overhead)
American Bittern (several seen in flight and heard in call)
Sandhill Crane
Hermit Thrush
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker
Barred Owl
Great Horned Owl

Good birding,
Jon Ruddy
