Greetings all, Spent a lovely afternoon Sunday with the birds (and a lot of people and dogs) at Colonel Sam Smith Park in Toronto.
Along with the usual suspects, I made note of two Tree Swallows flying overhead and calling, but not yet acting interested in the nest boxes provided here. The numbers of Red-necked Grebes are increasing, and courtship behaviour is evident. I also saw three Horned Grebes along the lake side of the peninsula; one was still in winter plumage and the other two were in varying degrees of transformation. I did not see Horned Grebes when I was there last Wednesday, March 14th. A single Tundra Swan was present, associating with three Mute Swans. A single American Coot was swimming in the inner harbour. Photos will be posted on the sites noted below. Colonel Samuel Smith Park is at the foot of Kipling Avenue, south of Lakeshore Boulevard, in Etobicoke,Toronto. Happy Spring!
