Hey Ontbirders and, in particular, Hamilton Birders...
This evening between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. through light rain, dim light and
infrequent high gusting winds I watched the gulls assemble along the ice edge
in the Bayfront Park harbour. This area should now be very familiar to many of
us in this area of Ontario after the last month of warbler sightings, etc. It
was a wonderful time sorting through the birds and there were plenty of the
"white-winged gulls" to study.
11 Glaucous Gulls (mostly adults), 6 Iceland Gulls (1 imm.) and 1 ad. Thayer's
Gull stood most accomodating among the many Great Black-backeds and Herrings.
Interestingly very few Ring-billeds and NO Bonaparte's were in attendence.
Josh Vandermeulen may have had a 3rd-winter Lesser Black-backed Gull here
earlier in the day.
Directions: Park is located on southwest corner of Burlington Bay, accessed
from Bay St. N, then Harbour Front Dr.
