At 9 :10 am on Monday Jan 09 2012, the snowy owl was on the end of the East pier beyond the heavy fence and was not readily visible until it flew out to the West pier. At first it alighted on the solar panel then flew beside the cement mushroom (boat tie off device) and later jumped up on top of it.
IN the next hour or so, some longtails and also a common loon swam by the east side of that canal area. And much further back, lots of birders noted the king eider in much the same area as the weekend – namely, among the mergansers nearer the opposite = West side of the canal, viewed best by walking just a few minutes north from the parking area up the designated path. With those glowing eyes it looks like he is getting a charge out of the setup ;>) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/nasubtropicals/DSC_4414-1solarowl.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/nasubtropicals/DSC_4403-1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/nasubtropicals/DSC_4459.jpg _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
