Ontbirds Subscribers, Just to update everyone, I arrived at Whitby Harbour at 3:15pm and had the Smew immediately upon stepping out of the car, there were only 3 or 4 other birders there at that time. The bird was swimming & diving with some female Red-breasted Mergansers, anywhere from 30m to 100m off the fencing around the edges of the harbour - straight out from the parking lot, had it not been snowing so heavily, probably could have watched from inside the car. What a great Christmas gift! Good luck to all twitching this great find!
Directions as previously given: Exit Hwy 401 at exit 410 (Brock St.) and follow it south 2 km. (to where Brock St. veers east and becomes Water St. just past the entrance to MTC Technologies) to the parking lot at the pier at Whitby Harbour across from the Whitby Marina. The bird has been being seen just off this parking lot. Sent wirelessly from my BlackBerry device on the Bell network. Envoyé sans fil par mon terminal mobile BlackBerry sur le réseau de Bell. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
