Karen/Bruce Many of us on the list have been birding for 30-40 years and are well aware of the issues regarding owls and birders, photographers etc. I enjoy the reports of rare birds but I am not particularly interested in the editorialization. If someone witnesses inappropriate behaviour I think mentioning it to the individual involved is a reasonable approach. I don't think reminding people on the Listserv "not to approach the owl closely" is either effective in discouraging those individuals who are likely to do such or necessary for the 98% of birders who are respectful of the birds and the other birders.
