Dec 24 0800hrs:

A small crowd of persistent observers had a chance to watch the resident SNOWY
OWL breakfast on an already-captured duck on the south breakwall that juts into
Lake Ontario. The wind was calm but the temp was -9C and the patchy cloud cover
made getting good light for photos a little more challenging.

That owl ate like a pig! Big chunks, feathers and all!

:)

It was interesting to note how the owl was extremely aware of what was going on
around her, swivelling her head around quite quickly, but often only looking
through half-open eye slits. Only sudden activity made her snap her eyes open
attentively.

The harbour is abuzz with other activity. Trumpeter and Mute adults and
juveniles abound, as well as the cohort of mergansers, geese and gulls, plus
the Long-tailed ducks and Goldeneyes mentioned yesterday.

>From the 401 at Whitby, take Brock St. south 2km to the parking lot at the
>harbour.

Cheers!
