Ontbirders

Yesterday, December 4, we watched a fine O. v. scalariventris in the Old Cut
Woods at Long Point. This northern Ontario subspecies must be quite rare as
far south as the north shore of Lake Erie. It was very tame for a Great Horned
Owl, typical of subspecies from remote northern Canada.

Certainly, this is the first that I've seen at Long Point.

Directions: From south end of Long Point Causeway drive east about four KM,
turn left on Old Cut (Boulevard). The Old Cut Banding Station is about five
properties along on your right. Park, and walk into the woods.
