After being very elusive most of the day, the adult Pacific Loon molting
into winter plumage at Oshawa Harbour reappeared at about 3:50 p.m. and
remained within good viewing distance until I left at 5:30 p.m. It tended to
stay close to the area between the red and green markers.

Thousands of Red-breasted Mergansers, lots of gulls and many loons were
following small fish in spectacular feeding frenzies. A fisherman showed us
how abundant the shiners (small fish) were in the water off the pier.

Directions: From Highway 401 in Oshawa, east of Toronto, take Simcoe Street
south to Lake Ontario. From beach parking lot walk along the pier to the
lighthouse.

Good birding,
