A few visitors stopped by as well including Brad and Anita Blasius, Liz Bokram, Michele Gonyea, David McConnell, Matthew Weaver and Samuel Weaver. Weather: Southeast winds and hazy skies made for difficult conditions today. Lots of birds were high and far and frequently cloaked in haze. Still, it was another beautiful day at the park with a light breeze and temperatures reaching up into the low 70s. Raptor Observations: Today was another good day of accipiter movement with many birds found high in the blue. Turkey vultures stayed low and were way far out, making counting them a challenge in the haze. The day's highlight was an adult red-shouldered hawk that came zooming in low overhead in the early afternoon. Non-raptor Observations: There were lots of red-winged blackbirds (hundreds) and blue jays (thousands) on the move in the early morning. A sizable flock of yellow-rumped warblers was again present throughout the day. Also, some dark-eyed juncos were around. Predictions: Sunny and clear with light winds out of the south and southeast. Sounds like it should be another pleasant day. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jonathan Stein ([email protected]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org Site Description: The primary site used by the Detroit River Hawk Watch (a joint venture of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and it's Friends group, the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
