Lagoons were virtually empty, with not a single shorebird present. Ducks
consisted of Lesser Scaup pair, Green-winged Teals, Ruddy Ducks, Ring-necked
Ducks. Also 4 Bonaparte's gulls feeding.
Went to the beach in search of gulls and was not dissappointed. Amongst
hundreds of Bonaparte's and Ring-bills were 2 juvenile little gulls which i was
able to photograph. Did not have time to scope the HUGE flock of gulls on the
pier leading to the lighthouse....or rather was distracted by the absolutely
beautiful views of the little gulls during the little time i had.
Directions to Lagoons: Travelling towards Port Stanley from the 401, turn right
on Warren Rd, then right on Scotch Line and proceed for approximately 1 km.
There are two viewing buildings overlooking the lagoons which are fenced off.
For the beach in Port Stanley, simply follow the ample signage as you approach
town. The flock where i observed the little gulls was in front of "GTs". Also
numerous Turkey vultures on the life guard towers and surrounding beach houses.
Happy Birding,
Peeter
