There was a good collection of waders this morning at Shirley's Bay: 50+
Pectoral, 30+ Dunlin, 10+ Semipalmated Plover, 10+ Black-bellied Plover, 3
Golden Plover, 1 Baird's Sandpiper, several White-rumped and Semipalmated
Sandpipers. Unfortunately the entire lot was repeatedly flushed by a Peregrine,
when we left at 9:30 there was only 1 Semipalmated Sandpiper left. Also present
were 3 Bald Eagle (2 imm, 1 ad) and about 20 pipits. The lake held 6
White-winged Scoter, 3 Red-breasted Merganser and 1 1st winter Lesser
Black-backed Gull, the latter part of a group of gulls harassing a feeding
flock of cormorant. The woods at the base of the dyke held many Kinglets, also
Blue-headed (1) and Red-eyed Vireo (1), along with Black-throated Blue (2) and
Orange-crowned warbler (1) and one Northern Parula (the later unfortunately
found dead on the track).
Richmond lagoons held 25 Snow Geese, but no shorebirds.
