Gary Little found a Plegadis ibis in the northeast section of the lakefront
marsh in Port Hope about 3pm this afternoon,
Tuesday August 16. It was not identifued to species, and unfortunately could
not be refound when several local birders, including myself, arrived to look
for it. Cattail cover in the marsh is extensive and it could very easily
have still been there but hidden from view.
The ibis could well be the one seen intermittently on Gull Island at
Presqu'ile recently - also not identified to species with certainty either.
Will post again if the bird is refound.

Directions:
Take Exit 464 from the 401 south to the railway bridge on Mill Street by the
Ganaraska River. Turn east at the traffic lights onto Peter Street, then
south at the next traffic lights onto Hope Street which swings east to
become Lake Street. There is a parking lot in a few hundred metres as Lake
Street swings north.
Park here and walk east on the trail into the A.K.Sculthorpe Marsh where
there is a raised viewing platform and a boardwalk that gives restricted
views into the cattails.
