A visit to the Zander sod farms today produced 20 Black-bellied Plovers, 3 American Golden Plovers and 4 Semipalmated Plovers along with numerous Killdeer.
The Zander farm is on the north side of the 10th concession west of the 15th sideroad. To reach this area from Highway 400 take Highway 88 west to Bond Head. Turn right (north) at the lights. The next set of lights is the Beeton Road. Turn left (west)and head toward Beeton. Turn north on the 15 th sideroad. Further north and west, on the south side of the 12rh concession near and old railway right of way were more Semipalmated Plovers, a couple least sandpipers and a Lesser Yellowlegs. Further back on another field were more shorebirds, which I could not make out with only binoculars. Be careful on this road as it is busy and there are no shoulders. Best to pull in where the railway right of way is. -- John Schmelefske # 7360 RR # 4 Alliston, Ontario,Canada, L9R 1V4 Email: [email protected] Watercolour Gallery: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2001214&id=1051632050&l=ea990bf4ce _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
