At 8:30 this morning (August 12th) another observer and I saw two of the juvenile Western x Eastern Kingbird Hybrids. They are quite independent now. I saw one of them capture what looked like a grasshopper, and both of them were feeding on some quite unripe wild grapes. I had no good opportunity for photos, but it was easy to see the white outer tail feathers, faint mask, faint yellow underparts (think a fall phoebe) and lack of the white terminal tailband in both of the birds that I saw.
No sign of any adults, or of the third juvenile this morning. The birds were located close to the large red and white hydro tower as mentioned in James Holdsworth's original post on August 10th. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
