This afternoon at 3:00 PM I saw a European Goldfinch at the
Claireville Ranch entrance to Claireville Conservation area. The bird
was clearly visible at a distance of 20 metres or less as it foraged
on the ground for about two minutes. It then flew off into the field
area just west of the entrance road, immediately inside the first
(outer) gate which displays a large "Claireville Ranch" sign
overhead. I could not see any signs of feather wear or leg bands, but
I'd have to assume it was an escaped bird (I'd be interested to hear
other opinions by private e-mail, though).
This entrance to Claireville CA is off Highway 7/Queen
Street/Regional Road 107 in Brampton, 2.7 km east of Airport Road.
Claireville Road is opposite McVean Drive.
